Setup Handheld Scanners with our App

This page walks you through configuring handheld scanners with the Despatch Cloud app: removing an older 3.4 build, enabling secure Proximity Login by whitelisting device IPs, and installing plus configuring version 3.5 with your DC URL and API Key. It finishes with login options: including barcode login: and practical troubleshooting so devices are ready for inventory checks, receiving, relocations, and order fulfilment, all tracked by user and time.

A charmingly practical guide

Consider this your pocket‑sized guide for warehouse wizardry. The Despatch Cloud mobile app bestows real‑time control over inventory checks, goods‑in, stock relocations, order fulfilment, and item searches. Each device requires a user login; thus every tap, scan, and triumphant beep is recorded by user and date/time.

If you’re configuring handheld scanners for the first time - or graduating them to a newer app version - this guide will usher you through with minimal faff and maximal satisfaction.

Section 1: Removing version 3.4
(if previously installed)

Upgrading to a fresh build? First, evict the old tenant:

  1. Open Settings on your scanner.

  2. Tap Apps or Applications.

  3. Find “Despatch Cloud” or “DC Mobile”.

  4. Select it; choose Uninstall; follow the prompts until it’s wholly gone.
Tip: If the app icon lingers like an unwelcome ghost, restart the device; then check Apps again.

Section 2: Proximity Login

Whitelist your scanners

Proximity Login ensures only approved devices can access your account; you’ll whitelist the scanners’ IP addresses.

  1. Log in to your Despatch Cloud desktop account via your web browser.

  2. Go to Settings in the left navigation.

  3. Open General Settings.

  4. Select Proximity Login.

  5. Enable the feature: choose Yes.

  6. Click to Save Settings, then refresh the page.

  7. You can also click in and out, this should show you new options.

  8. Enter the IP Addresses that you want to Whitelist, you can add as many as you like.

  9. Enter each scanner’s IP in the Proximity Login Whitelist field.

  10. Finding the IP address:

    • On the scanner, open a browser or search app; search for “What is my IP”.

    • Copy the IP shown; add it to the whitelist.

  11. Choose to Whitelist Computers as well or choose not to. The default is NO.

Note:

If your scanners sit behind a corporate network, you may see a shared public IP; verify with your network administrator if in doubt.

Troubleshooting and pro tips:

  • Can’t find “DC Mobile”? Search “Despatch Cloud” precisely; avoid typos - the Play Store is unforgiving.

  • Login fails: confirm your DC URL is exact; watch for trailing slashes and spelling.

  • API Key woes: rotate a fresh key in General Settings: API Access; then paste carefully.

  • Proximity blocks: ensure the scanner’s IP is on the whitelist; if your IP changed, update the list.

  • Barcode login: splendid for shared devices; ensure each user’s barcode is current and scannable.

With the app installed, Proximity Login enabled, and credentials in place, your scanners are now primed for warehouse heroics: inventory checks; receiving; relocations; fulfilment; and swift searches, all tracked to the correct user and time.

Proceed to scan with gusto - and mind the beeps; they’re the sound of productivity.
